New Trees

I have been planting and planting and planting new trees this winter.

I planted a Braeburn apple.

I planted 2 paw paw trees.

I planted 3 pineapple guava bushes/trees. (They can get up to 10 feet tall. Is that a bush or a tree?)

I planted 2 hazel nut trees.

I bought strawberries that haven't arrived yet.

I want 2 more blueberry bushes.

  2. All your new things sound great! Too cold to plant here. Will be interested in how your new apple tree does. Do you have another one for pollination or don't you need one? Nancy

    1. I bought a self-pollinating apple. It won't produce as much fruit without a friend, but it will produce. I don't have room for two full sized apples. I may graft in another type of apple to improve production, but that would be a few years from now.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Sounds like you've been busy! Matt really wants to start a wee orchard on our place. It will have to be dwarf trees though as we have limited space. I had to go look up both the pineapple guava and paw paw as I don't think I've ever encountered those. We added a couple blueberry and current bushes last year. I hope they come back well. We've had a significantly colder and snowy winter than usual. Huzzah for homegrown fruit!

    1. The paw paws are native down here, and they are the host plant of one of the swallowtail butterflies. I had wanted them since I got into butterfly gardening.

Only after researching and reading about them did I learn that they also produce a pretty neat fruit.

It's been exceptionally cold here, too. I am thinking about a blog post about it. We had an inch of ice!!! It is still on the ground 3 days later.
