We had over six inches of rain in 24 hours last week. Now, that sounds like a lot of rain. And it is. But it has been so dry that we only had one day of standing water. (In normal years, we have what looks like small stream going through the back of our property.) It has all been absorbed into the ground. The ground does not even feel spongy.
The grass grew mightily in all this rain, much to my husband's disappointment. (The grass is his department.) But so did my tomatoes, and my beans. Even though I had been watering regularly, the garden has just perked up with the rain. The tomatoes look like they grew two inches. And they have put out flowers!

White Eggplant I tried in a pot. I forgot
to bring it out of the rain and it seems
2 inches bigger than before the rain. |

Harvest Monday.
We got a good bit of rain on Friday too. I am so glad you got some. I know you guys have been needing it down there. Garden is looking good, hopefully we will keep getting regular rain.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kris. I hope we all get regular rain this year, too.
DeleteEverything is is growing wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Clint.
DeleteRain does seem to work much better than watering - I guess it gets the bits in between as well which makes all the ground much wetter over all - and 6 inches sure is a LOT of rain.
ReplyDeleteYou are right--6 inches is a LOT of rain. Normally, it would probably be too much for my garden. But the drought means that my garden absorbed as much as it could and the deeper ground soaked off the rest.
DeleteI am happy about the rain. It gets us back to more normal rainfall totals.
Isn't it amazing how plants suddenly grow so much after a good soaking from the rain! Glad you got some much needed rain.
ReplyDeleteThank you, gardentowok.
Deletewe are warm sunny and dry this week, after the rain & snow last weekend. Things always seem to grow a ton with a rain; wishing we had a bit more, or it's going to be a long dry summer.
ReplyDeleteI am actually wishing for a bit more this week. My garden is already starting to dry out. It's been hot (almost summer hot) and windy. A bad combination for keeping the garden watered.
DeleteRain is always so good for the plants. We are pretty dry here right now. We could use a good rain.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get some soon, Daphne.
DeleteWe finally got some, too - but it went as soon as it came, now the forecast is dry for another week. *sigh* Glad you got a lot!
ReplyDeleteBarbie, I hear you. Our forecast for this week is dry, too. I was at the local park with my kids today. Even after this big storm this week, the lake in the middle is WAY down.
